Hey there Everyone,
Lots has been happening in Youtube Land, hope you’ve been able to keep up and check it out. I started with a rather ambitious goal for the channel and I just recorded episodes 7 and 8 this week. So I’m looking forward to moving forward. That’s 8 videos so far and almost 14 hours of content that I’ve filmed, and even more hours editing and captioning, tagging and designing so please let me know if you are enjoying and learning something. Hope you are, as that’s the most important thing.
So, first things, this week, I recently decided to do something a little different. Perhaps one day, I’ll be brave enough to compile all the little outtakes post, uh, more like bloopers for sure. Some funny stuff is there.
But,as he is fast becoming friend/supporter, I spoke with Christian fiction and nonfiction Author David L. Winters. We talked about his newest release, Exercise Your Faith, Defeating the Lies That Men Believe. It was so fun to do this video. We could talk for hours but alas, David and I discussed not only the impetus behind creating his new book, tips for writers that desire to pen stories that resonate in the nonfiction space; we also talked about some of the people he interviewed, recurring themes and the lies men (and women too) believe that hold them back. While geared toward men, I also suggested that this would definitely be the kind of book many women would purchase and give to their spouse or significant other, having their own personal insider knowledge about what the man in their lives struggle with on a personal, and family level, and really in all facets of their lives.
One of the things I liked about the book is that while it initially feels lengthy at 35 chapters, that includes the reader letter and other stuff that’s not the meat but still, each of the chapters are relatively short and that the issues of our lives and the battles and attitudes we confront daily, both our own limiting beliefs and the traitor of comparison, was the bite-sized, even more palatable way of digesting the information in each of the tales within the chapter. I think this sort of short but rich passages, advice and illustration, will resonate with people short on time but great on need for a little encouragement and confrontation here, there and along life’s triumphant and tedious journey.
For instance, David talks about his brother, who like my own seemed to excel at many things, was physically fit and just that guy who people thought was the absolute coolest. While this story is about other men, women also have the lie of comparison that shouts about our own supposed “faults,” shortcomings and and less than favorable attributes we try to hide and tuck away daily and seem amplified in our comparison to others we and outsiders admire for all the existential appearance and physical qualities that appear -at first- to make them seem better than us. It’s a truly relatable book about the things we tell ourselves in general.
Here’s a little more about David, below and be sure to check out our chat here, and purchase your copy of Exercise Your Faith: Defeating the Lies Men Believe, here.
