Hey All,
Tip Tuesday took a little hiatus but is back with a tip from author, Jeanette de Beauvoir publisher’s, you know you dream them, “submission guidelines”. YUCK!!
When you’re ready to submit to a potential publisher, you know who you’ve researched and studied online, like not in a stalker kind of way but in an information-gathering kind of way, and maybe even had the fortunate opportunity to meet and chat with him or her in person, but no matter what impression you make online or in person, there’s one VERY important think you MUST do when it comes to that well meaning submission package…⠀Keep reading to see what Jeannette says:
They’re Called Guidelines for a Reason
When a publisher posts submission guidelines, they’re not suggestions. They’re not something you might try if you’re not feeling particularly creative today. They’re not even something the publisher dreamed up solely to make your life difficult. There’s actually a pretty good reason they were written as they were, and following them shows the publisher a number of things:
-
you’re bright enough to follow directions
-
you know how to read
-
you won’t be troublesome down the line, as you’re willing to enter the publisher’s turf and play by the publisher’s rules
